5:00 a.m...... a knock on the door from Etienne to wake up and get up. My watch alarm was politely ignored to catch just a few more minutes of precious rest. As I lay there still in the dark I can hear the sounds of the bush. I can feel the crisp clean linens under my feet as I listen intently to a bushbuck grazing just outside my room on the nocturnal blossoms of a sausage tree; and in the background the sweet soft calls of the cape turtle dove.
Now dressed and taking my last few sips of tea, I climb into the rover with Etienne and Eric. It is freezing and we are driving east toward the Kruger.
